Special Hobby 48180 1/48 Model 239 Buffalo Taivaan Helmi Over Finland

Model 239 Buffalo "Taivaan Helmi over Finland" 1/48

Finland was the only country where the Brewster model 239 fighter (known as the Buffalo in the US or UK) was liked by its crews. The reason might be that the Finnish operated the first lightweight version of the aircraft which was affectionally called by their pilots as the Taivaan Helmi (Sky Pear) or just simply as the Brewster. Until the arrival of the German Bf 109 fighters, the Brewsters had become the most successful figter type of the Finnish Air Force.

Our model of this version was originally produced for Classic Airframes, but as we have recently obtained production rights and moulding tools of this company, we are able to offer the Sky Pearl to the modeller now in Special Hobby range. One of the kit´s moulding tools was rather damaged by the wear and tear and we had to replace it by a new one. The model brings two machines in three camouflage options, one of them as flown by the most successful Finnish pilot Hans Wind.

Modelsvit 72039 1/72 Beriev Be-14 All-Weather SAR Flying Boat

46.00 $

Initially, Beriev Design Bureau had an intention to develop a special Search and Rescue (SAR) aircraft, based on Be-12. The design works began in 1962 after a decree of the USSR Government.

The first and only prototype was produced in 1965, receiving designation Be-14. The new plane had ability to perform all weather flights, carrying up to 15 passengers, having on board eight KAS-90 drop rescue containers. It was equipped with additional hatches on both sides of the fuselage and powerful projector for night rescue operations. The crew stuff was increased to 6 people, including paramedic and mechanic.

Although the Be-14 successfully passed its factory tests, it had never entered in service, due to insufficient funding, as far as the project appeared to be much more expensive than the USSR maritime aviation expected. After all, the Beriev Design Bureau had been requested to modify dozen of Be-12 in more "cost -effective" SAR variant named Be-12PS.

The FW 200C-6 Condor was a German four-engine military aircraft converted from the civilian FW 200B airliner in the early part of World War II. The main tasks of the aircraft were patrolling the open ocean and sinking enemy ships. Thanks to its good performance, and special tactics in the early years of the war, the FW 200 together with the Kriegsmarine submarines were almost the main threat to Great Britain's survival. In time, their role was not so significant and was reduced to conducting reconnaissance missions over the sea, and they were also used as carriers of Hs 293 guided bombs designed to destroy targets at long-range. In total, 20 aircraft of this variant were produced, which participated in the final period of World War II in Europe.
