Hobbymaster 7750 1/48 P-51D Mustang 335 FS/4 FG Captain Ted Lines
Later in WWII the Allied bombers were flying deep into Germany but suffered tremendous losses because of the lack of range the fighter escorts had. German fighters would wait beyond the range of the Allied fighters and then attack the vulnerable bombers. Once the P-51 called Mustang by the British had the Allison engine replaced with a British Merlin it possessed the high performance that had been lacking. With drop tanks the P-51 had the range to escort bombers all the way to Berlin and back.

Hobbymaster 3377 1/72 F-5F Tiger II 73-0891, 58th TTW, USAF, Williams AFB, 1979
The Northrop F-5 tactical fighter was designed as an extremely maneuverable, supersonic fighter with a high rate of reliability at a low operating cost. The F-5 first flew on July 30, 1959 with the first customer delivery in 1964. The last of more than 2,600 F-5's was produced in 1989 and about two-thirds of these are still in service with 26 countries more than 4 decades later. The F-5 was manufactured by Northrop Grumman and under license in Canada, Taiwan, South Korea, Spain and Switzerland.
Swiss Staffel 6 "Ducks" was created in 1925. Staffel 6's first unit badge was a six-pointed
star with a witch riding a broom but in 1940 the badge became a marching duck carrying a Halberd (two-handed pole weapon or staff). With the arrival of the Northrop F-5E in 1983 training moved to Payerne AB and became the home of Staffel 6 with pilots from the French speaking area of Switzerland. Along with Staffels 8, 11, 17, 18 and 19 F-5E J-3033 became 6 Squadron's aircraft to receive a permanent squadron paint scheme.
