    Roden 611 1/32 Nieuport 24bis

    29.00 $
Aircraft in WWI often became obsolete, though having barely taken to the air. The fast pace of invention in aircraft design often led to nothing, and some ideas and developments became outmoded, which a year or two before had been considered as progressive and innovative. However, some design approaches, which might be considered simple in many respects, ensured not only great success for certain aircraft, but also a kind of rebirth in later types and variants.
One such aircraft was the Nieuport 17, which can undoubtedly be named among the ten most famous types of the Great War. Built in 1916 it became a real salvation for the Allies' air arms and was built in large numbers. Later there appeared the Nieuport 17bis with a modified fuselage, and in the spring of 1917 the designer Gustav Delage developed the next new version of the fighter, the Nieuport 24. The fuselage gained a more rounded cross section in comparison with its predecessor and the wings were rounded at their tips. The horizontal and vertical tail surfaces were also very different from previous models, having a more rounded outline. A powerful 130-hp Le Rhone engine was installed in the plane.

    Tamiya 61115 1/48 Kawasaki Ki-61-I Hien

    25.00 $

    In Desperate Defense

The Hien was officially adopted by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) in 1943, and stood out among its Japanese aircraft contemporaries in the Pacific War on account of its liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, slimline fuselage and long, elegant wing. A number of different variants were produced, among them the Ki-61-Id which featured a 20cm-elongated nose to house 20mm cannons, plus 12.7mm machine guns in the wing. In fact, with 1,360 units it was the most prolifically produced Hien variant; its superior performance at higher altitudes meant that it was often given the brief of taking on incoming U.S. B29 bombers in the skies around the home islands of Japan. One IJA unit which notably deployed the Hien was the 244th Air Group led by Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi.

Trumpeter 01608 1/72 Chinese Xian Flying Leopard FBC-1

    17.00 $

The FBC (Fighter Bomber China)-1, also known as the "Flying Leopard" or JH-7, is a new type of fighting-bomber designed by Xi'an Aircraft design Research Institute and produced in Xian Aircraft Industry Corp. Which made its debut at the Beijing military parade on Oct. 1, 1999, on the PRC's 50th anniversary. In 1999-2000, the PLAAF received at least 20 such long-range fighters. With many breakthroughs in manufacture technique, FBC-1's outstanding advantages are long range, big loading and strong power. It can take the offensive to ground, to sea and dogfight. It reaches to the design requirements of active defense. Each FBC-1 is equipped with 2 Rolls Royce Spay MK 202 engines. In early 2002, Xian Aircraft completed development of the JH-7A fighter-bomber, an improved copy of the FBC-1. The success of its development fills the gaps in the fields of Chinese fighting-bomber.
