Authentic Collectables are very proud to present an exciting, limited edition hard cover book project produced with Dick Johnson and acclaimed author John Smailes titled Dick Johnson Racing: The First To 1000 - Celebrating 1000 Championship Races 1981-2022.
Dick Johnson Racing is without doubt one of the most iconic teams in Australian motorsport and at the Repco Bathurst 1000 in 2022, the team celebrated their 1000th championship race start.
In doing so, DJR became the first team in ATCC/Supercars history to achieve the incredible feat - and what better place to celebrate the milestone than at the famous Mount Panorama circuit, which holds such a significant place in the history of the team.
Officially established in 1980 and entered in their first Australian Touring Car Championship race at Symmons Plains in Tasmania in 1981 where Dick Johnson raced his legendary Tru-Blu XD Falcon, the team has remained a constant in Australia's main game of motorsport ever since.
In the hearts and minds of a legion of passionate fans, DJR are Australia's Ford team. They have raced a variety of iconic Falcons, Sierras and Mustangs with some of the the biggest names in motorsport behind the wheel, taking out 10 drivers' championships and a horde of race wins, pole positions and podium finishes along the way. And of course, 4 legendary Bathurst 1000 victories.
This team has an incredible, enduring history and this book features Hall of Fame racing legend and team founder Dick Johnson, with John Smailes, looking back at the history of the team and the journey from 1981 to 2022 across 1000 championship races.
Broken down into a year by year format featuring a large range of sensational images and comprehensive statistics, Johnson provides his personal recollection of each year with many highs, some lows and incredible anecdotes and insights that only he can provide, backed up with countless hours of exceptional research and interviews by Smailes, who has also provided insight into the evolution of DJR against the backdrop of the ever changing ATCC / Supercars championship.
Interspersed throughout the book is a variety of contributions from star drivers and significant figures from the history of DJR along with a dedicated Bathurst 1000 chapter covering the years the Great Race wasn't counted as part of the ATCC/Supercars Championship.
The book is concluded with a dedication to the fans of the team, a general overview of statistics and a tribute to the 40 people who made DJR.
Produced in an exclusive hardcover limited edition print run of only 3000, each copy of this book has been individually numbered and is signed by Dick Johnson AM and Dr. Ryan Story AM making it an officially endorsed collectors item.
It's a must have for fans of Dick Johnson and his legendary team.
