A journey on a Pullman service would be regarded by many as the pinnacle of rail travel in the steam era. The LNER A1 4-6-2 locomotive and complementary Pullman coaches included in this set represent how the ‘Flying Scotsman’ may have looked in the LNER heyday of the 1930s, that being the Flying Scotsman service and not the somewhat famous locomotive named after it. This service would run non-stop between Edinburgh and London, departing at 10:00 in each direction.

Flying Scotsman Centenary

In celebration of the centenary year of Flying Scotsman, we are excited to unveil a range of models celebrating the life of the locomotive. We are thrilled to be the lead sponsor of a catalogue of events organised by the National Railway Museum to celebrate this most special of occasions. Officially a centurion, Flying Scotsman will be in steam for the next ten years at least, and in preservation likely for the rest of time.

The most famous locomotive and train in the world features in this superb Hornby train set. The striking apple green liveried class A1 'Flying Scotsman' helps to recreate those wonderful days of train travel in the 1930s when the two great railway rivals, LNER and the LMS vied for the lucrative passenger traffic between London and Scotland. The track circuit in this set can be extended to fully complete the included MidiMat layout using additional track and accessory packs thus creating an exciting and fully functioning model railway. Additional coaches can be obtained to extend the train.
