Common features of illuminated platforms (urban type)

• *Braille blocks and anti-slip material to prevent falling onto the tracks are printed on the top surface of the platform
• *The platform height has been raised by 1.5 mm from the platform (modern type) to match the bottom edge of the vehicle door with the platform height, recreating a barrier-free platform with fewer steps for boarding and alighting
• *The increased platform height can be combined with <4033> Overbridge Station (Modern Type), <4040> New Overbridge Station, and Platform (Suburban Type) using the included height-up parts
• *Various safety and security devices for railways can be installed

While most roads had one major backshop, the prototypes for the Walthers Cornerstone Machine Shop allowed railroads to make repairs at outlying terminals since it was often faster, more cost-effective and got the locomotives back on the road and earning their keep. As new engine terminals were built, most received a machine shop capable of handling just about any type of repair that might be needed. This kit matches the design of the Modern Roundhouse (933-3260, sold separately), and can be built as an attached or freestanding building. It also includes a boiler house, which would supply steam, electricity and compressed air to the entire facility. Large roll-up doors can be built open or closed, and the baseplate of the Machine Shop kit has slots that accept popular rail sizes. The Machine Shop is one of many Cornerstone N Scale railroad buildings. As shown the Machine Shop measures: 8-1/8 x 5-1/4 x 6-1/2" 20.6 x 13.3 x 16.5cm

The station building is a requirement of almost every station around the UK. Only the smallest of station halts around the UK would not have a station building. Modelled on Dunster station on the West Somerset heritage railway.

Initially part of the Bristol and Exeter railway, ownership of the station would pass to the GWR in 1876, BR in 1948 and onto the preservation society in 1976.
