Old-timey truck sure is pretty to look at, but it's not just for show. The Ugears Pickup Lumberjack is a working truck with a job to do, and that's hauling wood (or hay bales, or work tools—whatever you can imagine)! Based on the popular 1959 Chevrolet 3100, the DIY wooden model features a 1m x 7mm spring motor (same as the powerful Ugears Drift Cobra) allowing the Pickup to travel up to 6 meters and haul loads of 400 - 450 g in the truck bed. The winding knob is stylized to resemble a custom open top air filter emerging from the hood. Lift the hood to reveal the beautiful V8 engine firing away!

The Pickup Lumberjack has 3 modes: R (Reverse), N (Neutral), D (Forward). The spring's energy is transferred to a gear set to increase the gear ratio, through the gearbox, then to the drive shaft, differential, and rear axle. A Start/Stop mechanism located in the truck bed allows you to start the truck on command. Because this is Ugears, and because we love to focus on the small, whimsical details that make a model exceptional, a small pendulum under the seats simulates the shaking of a truck's powerful engine. Bent plywood gives the model beautiful lines and 1950's styling. The Pickup's doors open from inside and outside, and the tailgate folds down. The front wheels can be turned using the steering wheel and locked in place for graceful turns. The Pickup Lumberjack also features front and rear spring suspension so you don't get bounced around too much on those country roads.

Mechanical Tellurion by Ugears. Spin the Earth!

The idea of a space-themed model has been “floating in the ether” at Ugears for some time now. Every time we announce a new model, hopeful Ugears fans will ask, “Is it an orrery?” From this shared desire a project was born. Our mission: to spread knowledge of space and time by helping people visualize the movements of the planet we live on, and its closest satellite, the moon.

Ugears is proud to present the Mechanical Tellurion, an accurate wooden model representation of our corner of the universe. A tellurion (also spelled tellurian, tellurium, and sometimes called a loxocosm), is an ingenious mechanism that depicts the cosmic dance between Sun, Earth and Moon. The causes of day and night, the phases of the moon, and the changing seasons are seen and understood according to the movements of this 3D puzzle. A tellurion (from the Latin tellus, meaning "earth") is related to the orrery, which illustrates the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the solar system in a heliocentric model.

What is my place in the universe? Where am I going? We can't help you with the metaphysical aspect of these questions, but this wooden puzzle will help you understand the voyages you make as a passenger on planet Earth, and your interconnected relationship with some of your nearest celestial neighbors. We all experience the regular cycles of day and night, the phases of the moon, the changing of the seasons and the passing of the years. But how many of us truly understand these phenomena, or can explain what's behind the clocks and calendars that rule our lives? Any child can tell you how old they are, but ask a child how many times they've circled the sun, and you might get a puzzled look, or an amusing range of answers: A hundred twenty-seven? Ten thousand? Once? Never?

Build the beguiling DIY wooden model Tellurion, enjoy showing it to your family and friends, and you will all have a better understanding of the heavens, the seasons, and the concept of time itself. Turn the handle to set the closely calibrated system of gears in motion. One turn of the handle = one rotation of the earth on its axis = one day. Point to a spot on Earth's surface, observe the spinning earth's position relative to the sun, and visualize sunrise and sunset, the passage of day into night. The Tellurion shows the phases of the moon are a function of the moon's position relative to the sun and earth. When rotating, the moon rises and falls slightly, thereby changing its trajectory. The earth's orbit around the sun, together with a correct depiction of the 23.5 degree inclined orientation of the earth on its axis, shows why we experience changing seasons (outside the equatorial regions). The Tellurion charts the passage of the seasons, while also giving a handsome graphic representation of the zodiac, showing the sign and constellation under which you were born.

The Ugears Mechanical Tellurion can be manually adjusted or "tuned" to provide an accurate depiction of the relative positions of the sun, earth, and moon on any given day. When "tuning" the mechanism, set the pointer to the middle of winter or summer on the seasons dial. The earth, on its tilted axis, can be rotated (using a gear under the phases of the moon) to have either hemisphere be farthest from the sun in the bleak midwinter, or closest to the sun in summer. Turn the handle the correct number of days forward or back, from whichever solstice is closest in time, to set the present day. After consulting a lunar calendar, use the upper gear disk to adjust the position of the moon to its correct phase. Your Tellurion is now "set." With each passing day, give the model one turn of the crank to chart the earth's progress around the sun, and the moon's lunar cycle as it orbits the earth.

As you study the movements of your Ugears model Tellurion, you will learn that the full moon occurs when the moon is behind the earth, away from the sun. This is because the sun illuminates the entire surface of the moon that is visible to us (the "bright side" of the moon). In contrast, when the moon is between the earth and the sun, the sun's rays illuminate that part of the moon that is turned away from us (the "dark side" of the moon). We call this phase the "new moon," the period when the moon is not visible in the night sky. In the intervals between these phases, the moon waxes and wanes, changing its apparent shape, depending on how much of the illuminated part we can observe from the earth. The phases of the moon are just one of many somewhat counterintuitive astronomic understandings that are easy to visualize with the Ugears Tellurion 3D puzzle.

At Ugears, a rough approximation or "close enough," isn't really our style. In representing the orbital periods of our planet and the moon, our design engineers have given the Mechanical Tellurion a sophisticated gear system (first worked out by Dutch mathematician Christiaan Huygens in the 17th C) to have the most accurate approximations possible in a wooden mechanism at this scale. The earth gearing has a 365.256 day orbital period, while the moon-earth gear system has an orbital period of 27.323, giving accuracies within one thousandth of a day.

The Ugears Mechanical Tellurion DIY model kit comes with 249 parts and is rated "Medium," with an estimated construction time of 5 hours. Assemble me. Explore the Red Planet with Me!

Imagine the future of space exploration with Ugears' Manned Mars Rover, an all-terrain planetary explorer with 6x6 all-wheel drive, a cab for two astronauts, spring-driven motor, a swivel between cab and body, and fully-sprung independent suspension. This DIY model space rover has its front centerline pushed forward for better climbing and stability, front wheels that turn for maneuverability, and large diameter wheels to overcome obstacles while navigating the Martian landscape. A ramp folds down in the back, while a top-mounted dish antenna rotates 360° and can swivel up and down to transmit or receive signals to and from the base.

The Manned Mars Rover has a storage bay for tools and equipment or rock samples. Open it up to reveal the ratchet key that winds the spring motor. On the back left panel is a Start/Stop slide switch. Set the switch to "Stop" before giving the ratchet key several twists, then close the bay, flip the switch to "Start" and watch as your rover sets off to explore the red planet. Set up your own Martian obstacle course and be amazed at how the rover's six wheels cushion the bumps thanks to independent suspension, while rubberized wheels provide grip on smooth surfaces.

Laser engraving provides a level of detail and realism—just look at the cab's dashboard and the solar panels on top of the hatch. You can place a sticker with the official NASA insignia on your Rover's right side panel! The insignia, in use since 1959, features a blue sphere representing a planet, a v-shaped red wing representing aeronautics, stars that represent space, and a white circular orbit around the space agency's name. NASA's Artemis II mission, scheduled for November 2024 launch, will pave the way for a permanent lunar outpost and eventually a crewed mission to Mars. If humanity makes it all the way to Mars we're going to need a way to get around. People have a love affair with cars, and it's no surprise that not long after Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon (Apollo 11, July 21, 1969) astronauts David Scott and James Irwin were driving around the lunar surface in a "moon buggy" (Apollo 15, July 31, 1971). The most scientifically interesting moon rocks never would have been collected if we hadn't taken a car to space, for greater range of exploration. The LRV ("Lunar Roving Vehicle") was an impressive piece of engineering, having to bear twice its 209 kg weight, withstand micrometeoroids traveling faster than bullets, and reliably operate in 500° F temperature swings. Two engineers at General Motors saw the project through: Polish-born Mieczyslaw Gregory Bekker and Hungarian-born Ferenc Pavlics. Gentlemen, we salute you! Three LRVs remain in long-term parking on the lunar surface.

Fire and Forget is a wooden mechanical mini-model from the new exclusive Ugears Age of Bravery collection, dedicated to the courage of the Ukrainian nation. Ever since russia's February 2022 large-scale invasion of Ukrainian lands, the world has borne witness to the sacrifice and professionalism of the Ukrainian army. We named this collection "Age of Bravery" to pay tribute to Ukrainian defenders throughout history who faithfully fought and are fighting for peace in Ukraine, for our people, for our lands, for our freedom.

Ugears engineers and designers have been inspired by real stories from the front. The Fire and Forget model depicts a soldier of the armed forces of Ukraine, bravely getting up close to fire a shot from his Javelin portable anti-tank missile system and destroying the occupiers' T-72B3 tank. The Ukrainian defender is clever and accurate, and the enemy tank pays the price. Relive the glorious moment again and again as you operate the slide. The model's gear system propels the rocket into the tank, causing its turret to blast off up and to the right. For the Ukrainian soldier, the encounter is all in a day's work—he is already looking for new enemy tanks to hunt. For the invader, forget it!
