Ugears 70176 Hogwarts Express Harry Potter

75.00 $

Assemble and depart to Hogwarts with me!

Wind the model with the special key, twist the smokestack Start/Stop switch, then watch the mesmerizing motion of the locomotive's gears, wheels and connecting rods as it chugs ahead. The Ugears Hogwarts™ Express can travel 4 meters (with tender and carriage) or 6 meters (locomotive only) on any smooth, flat surface.

The handsome locomotive can be run on its own or coupled with two cars—a coal tender and a passenger carriage. The tender has an empty coal compartment in which you can store the train's wind-up key or other small objects.

The locomotive is the driving force of the model, with its metal spring engine and gears that transmit power to the moving wheels. The locomotive is wound using a special key (there are winding slots on both the left and right side of the engine), but first be sure to twist the smokestack to the "Stop" position. Once the spring is wound, hold the model while twisting the smokestack to the "Start" position, then release and watch the train pull out in a straight line. Look at those beautiful train engine wheels and coupling rods in action!

The model is rated "Advanced" difficulty level with an estimated assembly time of 7 hours. The locomotive can be assembled in about 3 hours, giving you a head start on imaginative play! This DIY wooden model kit consists of 504 parts that are laser pre-cut into wooden boards. To assemble, simply remove the pieces from the boards and snap them together following the detailed, illustrated instructions available in 11 languages. One of the great things about our models is that no glue or special tools are required—everything you need for assembly is included in the box.

Ugears 60153 Stem Lab Tachometer 133pc

20.00 $

Educational 3D puzzle Tachometer by Ugears STEM Lab. Discover in AR!

Assemble the Tachometer and discover how it works.

  • The model kit comes with a QR-code to the study guide about the mechanism, the principal of its working, the main characteristics, formulas. It also includes interesting assignments.
  • Dive into augmented reality and look at how the Tachometer works. Interact with the model via a special AR application from Ugears.

Learn how the Tachometer works

A tachometer is a device designed to measure the rotational speed of various parts in engines and other mechanisms. It calculates revolutions per minute (RPM). The tachometer also measures and monitors load limits, in order to decrease or increase RPM so that the engine or mechanism runs within its optimal parameters.

Who invented the Tachometer, and when?

The tachometer was invented by the German engineer Dietrich Uhlhorn in 1817. His invention was a special device that measured centrifugal force. From 1840 on, this device has been used in railway locomotives, and later in cars and all manner of vehicular transport.

Use

The tachometer is used in mechanisms where it is necessary to accurately track RPM to avoid the negative consequences of overloads. Savvy motorists use tachometers to know when to shift gears (in cars with manual transmissions) and to control the load on the engine, thereby increasing the operating life of their vehicles.

What the Tachometer consists of and how it works

The Tachometer 3D puzzle from UGEARS' STEM Lab collection is a fully operational DIY wooden model of a tachometer, ready for you to assemble. When the handle is rotated, movement is transmitted through a reducer, increasing the RPM and displacing twin weights in the centrifugal unit. The higher the RPM, the more centrifugal force separates the weights, shifting a movable axle with flywheel. A pointer mechanism (dial) is fixed to the axle; the more the axle shifts (higher RPM), the more the dial arrow deflects, indicating higher speed rotation.

The Tachometer mechanism consists of:

  • Handle
  • Reducer
  • Weights
  • Axle
  • Flywheel
  • Dial

Connect the Tachometer to the Variator, creating a new mechanism

The Variator-Tachometer system demonstrates the direct relationship between the transmission ratio of a gearbox, and rotational speed.

When the handle of the Variator is rotated, the movement is transmitted through the reducer to the cone-shaped driving pulley. The rotation of the first cone is then transmitted through the belt to the other cone, which is the driven pulley. When the pedal attached to the housing is pressed, it shifts the fork holding the belt, thereby changing the rotational speed of the driven pulley. When the Tachometer is attached to the Variator, the changing rotational speed of the driven pulley of the Variator is transmitted to the Tachometer's reducer. This in turn will increase or decrease the centrifugal force on the weights, shifting the axle with flywheel. Shifting the axle deflects the indicator on the dial toward a higher or lower value. In this way, changes to the transmission ratio in the Variator will be seen to increase or decrease the RPM of the attached Tachometer.

The Variator-Tachometer mechanism consists of:

  • Handle
  • Reducer
  • Cone-shaped driving pulley
  • Cone-shaped driven pulley
  • Belt
  • Pedal
  • Housing
  • Fork
  • Reducer
  • Weights
  • Axle
  • Flywheel
  • Dial

Ugears 70204 Tracked Off-Road Vehicle 423pc

46.00 $

Tracked Off-Road Vehicle

Assemble me. Get ready to conquer any terrain!

Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no valley low enough, ain't no river wide enough, to keep this jeep from gettin' through! The Tracked Off-Road Vehicle from Ugears is an eye-poppin' rock hoppin', heart-stoppin' ride. Whatever your 4x4 of choice, whether you use a UTV for hunting or to get around the farm, a sport ATV for thrilling trail adventure, a side-by-side for family trips in the country, a dune buggy for getting to your favorite surf spot, or a truck for work and adventure, just one look at the tracks on this wooden jeep model will trigger your "I want!" reflex.

Our 1:24 scaled wooden ORV model has a spring motor that allows it to travel more than three meters in “D” (Drive) mode and more than four meters in “S” (Sport) mode, an open cab, four-wheel drive, a hood that opens to show the engine, and safety bars in back, but the standout feature are the four tracked modules in place of wheels. Rubber track conversion systems, like Mattracks, Rubtrack and those of other manufacturers can be bolted to the rims of ORVs, tractors and rescue vehicles, allowing the vehicle to operate in all conditions and on all terrains. No more getting stuck in the mud or snow—with tracks like these you'll power through, no problem.

To operate your Tracked Off-Road Vehicle 3D puzzle, give up to 26 half turns of the ratchet mechanism located on the model's undercarriage. The stick shift functions as an "On/Off" switch so put it in "P" (Park) mode before winding, place the ORV on a surface, hold it as you slide the shifter to "D" mode, or raise the shifter slightly and move further back into "S" mode, then release the model. A pendulum located at the back operates to make the vehicle move more slowly in Drive mode. If you didn't think those triangular-shaped tracks could give your rig a smooth ride you're in for a surprise! Challenge your four-wheel drive Ugears Tracked Off-Road Vehicle with some trail runs over rough terrain, snow or ice, or put some small obstacles in the way to test the ground clearance. We don't recommend bogging because of the clean-up, but we do think the Ugears Tracked Off-Road Vehicle is one tough mudder.

The Ugears Tracked Off-Road Vehicle is a "Advanced" level DIY model, with 423 parts. Spend an enjoyable 8 hours building it from laser pre-cut parts made of art-quality composite wood. Like all Ugears models, you won't need glue or special tools to assemble your DIY model ORV. Model kits arrive at your door with everything you need right in the box, including step-by-step instructions in 11 languages (English, German, Ukrainian, French, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and Korean) to guide your assembly. The kit also comes with a piece of sandpaper for smoothing off any burrs on the parts, and wax to lubricate the gears and other moving parts of the tracked ORV model. Be sure to work in the moving parts, especially the track modules, for optimal function.

This DIY 3D puzzle of a tracked open-cab jeep is a kick-ass addition to the Ugears collection of cars, trucks, buggies, rovers, motorbikes and other vehicles. There's a model for every taste and interest in the amazing catalogue of Ugears mechanical 3D puzzles, whether that's an automaton, robot, vehicle, clock, wooden puzzle box or STEM Lab model designed for students wishing to learn basic mechanics. For off-road enthusiasts, we also offer the Desert Buggy, Pickup Lumberjack, Military Truck, Dozor-B Combat Vehicle, and Scrambler UGR-10 Motorbike. Choose the truly unique Tracked Off-Road Vehicle or any of these other models as a gift for the off-roader in your life, for birthdays or holidays, any occasion or no occasion.

We'd tell you more about this cool off-roader, but the sun's going down—time to make tracks!

Ugears 70164 Desert Buggy 80pc

9.00 $

Welcome to the expanding fleet of vehicles in the amazing collection of Ugears wooden mechanical models. We would like you to meet our new little pet: the fast and fun Desert Buggy. This miniature dune buggy is ready to take you on a ride!

If you are new to the world of Ugears clever mechanisms, the Desert buggy is one of the models you want to start with. It won’t overwhelm you with the amount of details as some of our more advanced-level models might, yet, the assembly of the Buggy is an interesting and very engaging process. Here you will need to use the color step-by-step instruction manual that comes in the box, but no glue or extra tools are required – everything you need for assembly is provided with the set.

The Desert buggy is driven by a rubber-band motor. Due to an open style body design, you can see the movement of the gears and wheels in the working motor. Just wind it up, pull the switch in the rear side of the model and your dune buggy will dart ahead. Or not ahead: you can adjust the direction of movement of your tiny vehicle by turning its front wheels – make it run circles chasing its tail if you like! While the front wheels make your Buggy maneuverable, the back, driving, wheels also provide stability. The rear wheels are larger and have rubber-band tires that ensure better surface traction and a smoother ride.

Like all Ugears models, the Desert buggy is made of natural fragrant plywood, the quality of which is verified by European laboratories.

If you still aren’t convinced that the Desert buggy equals an exciting time, we’d say that only two Mini Buggies can beat how much fun you can have with this model. Why? The explanation is very simple – two Desert buggys is a race!

Ugears 60131 Stem Lab Gearbox 120pc

17.00 $

Assemble it and discover the principle of working of the 4-speed Manual Gearbox.

Experiment: the model comes with a Pocket Model’s Study Guide with a creation story and mechanism design as well as engaging and interesting tasks.

Immerse yourself in Augmented Reality (AR), find out how the Gearbox is used in a car, and interact with it via the dedicated Ugears AR-application.

Learn how the GEARBOX works

The Gearbox is a stylised educational model, an interactive study guide to the mechanism, only for learning its essentials and principles of working. A mechanical gearbox is a reducer that provides speed and torque conversions from a motor to the driving wheels. After assembly, you can experiment with the Ugears manual Gearbox, by turns, choose I, II, III, or reverse with a kinematic pair of gears with different ratios and, rotating the actuator handle clock-wise, you can watch and control the rotation speed of the layshaft and drive shaft. In a Position “N” – idle in which both clutch gears of layshaft remain uncoupled and idling; the First Gear makes the layshaft and gears rotate with the lowest speed; the Second Gear lets the drive shaft along with the flywheel rotate with an average speed and the Third Gear allows the layshaft and all gears rotate with the highest speed. Switch on the Reverse gear and see how the driving clutch gear moves to the left towards gear “R” and connects to it transferring the rotation to the lower gear arrangement and propelling the layshaft and all gears to rotate in reverse.

When and who invented it

The invention of the gearbox belongs to the famous German engineer Karl Benz.

Usage

A gearbox is mainly used in the automobile industry as a part of the car transmission mechanism that transfers torque from the engine's shaft to the wheels.

The mechanism of the Gearbox is composed of:

  • Gear shifting lever
  • Layshaft with gear couplings
  • Reverse idle gear bearing
  • Drive shaft
  • Actuator handle

The Gearbox is developed to serve as a learning tool rather than a puzzle.

Just like the rest of Ugear’s collections, putting STEM-lab models together is fun and comprehensive: everything you need to build, learn and discover comes in a box. There you will find:

  • High-quality wooden boards with pre-cut details and other standard supplies. Assembly requires no glue or additional tools. The details come out of the boards with a slight push.
  • Detailed step-by-step color instruction manual. Easy to follow – easy to learn.
  • Examples and suggestions for your fun hands-on projects.
  • QR-code to Pocket Model’s Study Guide (the Gearbox Essentials with description of the mechanism, principle of working, main characteristics, definitions, and formulas).
  • QR-code to Ugears AR Application. New exciting feature from Ugears to make your learning experience even more fascinating!
