Finishing a credible 4th in class the 2019 Ford GTE of Harry Tincknell, Andy Priaulx and Jonathan Bormarito saw Ford bow out of their GTE involvement at the Le Mans 24 hours in fine fashion. The final result being close, with the Ford barely missing out on a final podium for a programme that delivered consistently fine results.

The livery was a throw back to the 1967 LeMans winning MKIV and looked excellent on the muscular Ford GTE.

This is a great addition to any Scalextric grid of GT cars.

Lucas Auer guides the Mercedes AMG C63 around the bends with an amazing 500 hp. He does this throughout the thrilling DTM season, and now the whole year on Carrera racing circuits. Since 2015, the Austrian-born driver has been racing for Mercedes in the German Touring Car Championship and in 2016 he even climbed to the top of the podium for the first time. Brutal racetrack muscle-power

The Plymouth Roadrunner, named after the Chuck Jones cartoon character, is a perfect example of the US Muscle Car breed. In the early 70s the speedy roadrunner was also in action on Nascar circuits. In the 1971 and 1972 seasons the US driver Cerry Ezra ‘Jabe’ Thomas sat at the wheel of this no.25 roadrunner.

The Brabham BT 46B ‘Fan Car’ took a standard Alfa Romeo and added a large fan at the rear of the car. While the car was confirmed as legal, Brabham did remove it in order to avoid a confrontation with other team owners.

The 1978 Swedish Grand Prix saw the debut, and only race, of one of the most outlandish ideas in Formula One history. The Brabham BT 46B ‘Fan Car’ took a standard Alfa Romeo flat 12 powered BT 46 and added a large fan at the rear of the car, this drew air through the engine water radiator before using an even more effective version of ground effect, pioneered by the Lotus 79, to create a partial vacuum under the car. This created an enormous amount of downforce, that saw Niki Lauda able to cruise away at the start of the race.

The form car for the rest of the season, the Lotus 79, was also a ground-breaking car, its skirts along the side of the bodywork helped generate high levels of downforce, sucking the car to the track and immediately moving the goal posts of performance for the other teams. The Fan car generated tremendous controversy upon its unveiling, with Brabham insisting that it was for cooling the engine, not downforce purposes. While the Brabham’s did not qualify on pole (they deliberately sand bagged to avoid controversy) Lauda lined up second behind Andretti. At the start the two fought for the lead, before a problem removed the Lotus and Lauda cruised to a 34.6 second victory.

After the race, the car was confirmed as legal, but was removed by Brabham, in order for the owner Bernie Ecclestone to avoid a confrontation with other team owners. The designer, Gordon Murray went on to design numerous race and championship winning cars. The fan car is today an important legacy of one of the most innovative periods of F1 history and makes a perfect pair with the otherwise dominant Lotus 79.

At the 2021 Goodwood Revival meeting one Cobra in particular caught all the attention in the paddock. The famous Cobra CSX2201 was back racing in the UK, and driven by none other the F1 pundit, F1 driver and generally motor racing legend, Martin Brundle.

Driving with him was the car’s owner, veteran campaigner Bobby Verden-Roe. And while the car didn’t finish as high as the pair wanted, the snake motif and scales on the front made it a sure-fire winner in the looks department!

Aston Martin had four cars in the line-up during the Rolex 24-hour race, also known as the Daytona race. One of the drivers was David Pittard, he drove the race in 2022, which was also an anniversary year. This was the 60th running of the Daytona race, but David left the team a year later. To this day, the winners of the Daytona race receive an engraved Rolex Daytona. The car is made on a scale of 1:32, has front, rear and brake lights and has an original Aston Martin license.
