SRA 81- Class Locomotive

Meticulous research, meticulous design and precise livery application. Our model is an extremely accurate representation of the SRA 81 class diesel electric locomotive, scale fidelity at its finest.

Our models are factory fitted with an 21 pin board with either a DC plug or a ESU DCC sound decoder featuring locally recorded and developed Profound Sound.

We have designed 4 distinct body types, these represent design changes covering all periods of service and colour schemes. The models feature a common design DCC motherboard allowing for lighting control of headlights, illuminated number boxes, white and red marker lights and ditch lights.

Entering traffic as E852 Sir Walter Raleigh in July 1928, smoke deflectors were added in December 1929 and the 'E' prefix was removed in June 1931. 

Following nationalisation, Sir Walter Raleigh was renumbered as 30852 in February 1949, while in Malachite Green with an unlettered tender and was repainted into British Railways Dark Green in December 1951. The late BR totem was added in October 1958.1

Mass production of the EF66 began in 1968 as a locomotive capable of towing a 1000t class high-speed freight train with a maximum speed of 100km / h by itself, and 55 0th generation cars were manufactured. Since 1985, he has been selected as a towing machine for the Blue Train. The latter model after Unit 21 is equipped with a canopy on the driver's cab window from the beginning of the new production, the main resistor exhaust port on the side shoulder of the car body is divided into four parts, and the equipment carry-in port on the side of the car body is equipped in the center.

The EF81-400 was introduced in 1986 to replace the EF30 used in the Kanmon Tunnel, and was used mainly in the Kanmon section and northern Kyushu.

Introduced in 1996 by National Rail Corporation these 120 units were built by A Goninan and Co. The locomotives are 3000kw General Electric powered and used on standard gauge Australia wide.

They were introduced in grey and marigold and several were painted into various business units of NRC. Later they wore GSR train liveries representing the Hook and Pull agreement between the two companies.

In 2002 Pacific National acquired the assets of NRC and commenced to repaint the NR class into their new blue and yellow colors.

SDS Models HO T379 Pacific National T4 Series T Class Locomotive

90024 entered service on March 10, 1989 and has appeared in a number of liveries during its lifetime. Without a doubt, the current Malcolm Logistics scenic livery has to rate as the most eye-catching to feature on a Class 90. 90024 was unveiled on Saturday 2 July 2016 at Crewe IEMD wrapped in a stunning scene of Coigach in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland, an image captured by internationally renowned landscape photographer, Colin Prior.

Featuring a vista that shows Ben Mo`r Coigach, Stac Pollaidh and Cu`l Beag from Loch Cu`l Dromannan, 90024 joins the Malcolm Logistics road trailer fleet in featuring photographs by Colin Prior, the scenes being used to highlight Malcolm Logistics' multimodal capability between Daventry in Northamptonshire and Grangemouth and Mossend in Scotland.

Early History of the 82 Class

March 23rd, 1994 heralded a new era in freight rail operations in Australia. On this day, Clyde Engineering in association with General Motors EMD released the first of fifty eight ‘82' Class locomotives from Clyde’s Mittagong plant.

These locomotives along with their imported cousins, the EMD Canadian built 90 class, marked a new beginning in the way a locomotive fleet was operated and maintained.

Whilst these locomotives were operated by Freight Rail (a business unit of State Rail), they are actually supplied and serviced by Clyde at their Kooragang Island maintenance facility. This leasing arrangement was known as ‘Ready Power’

Under the terms of this contract, Clyde would be responsible for the overall up keep and maintenance of these units for a period of fifteen years. Although minor servicing and provisioning was undertaken by Freight Rail, major servicing and repairs was completed by Clyde.

With the introduction of these locomotives a wide spread reduction of the NSW locomotive fleet had begun. The first casualties were the veteran fleet of 44 class Alco’s, then the 45 and 442 classes along with the Mark I 48 class. Further reductions to the locomotive occurred with the withdrawals of the 422 and 49 classes.

This overall fleet reduction reduced the average age of Freight Rail’s locomotive fleet from over twenty five year old to approximately ten.

These locomotives have travelled all over NSW and have ventured into Queensland and Victoria on intermodal freight services, and in South Australia on the Leigh Creek coal service. They are currently seen on both coal and wheat services all over the state, through Sydney, and the occasional local trip train around the Sydney metropolitan area.
