Hornby R30361 BR Thompson Class L1 2-6-4T 67735 1948 - 1956 Locomotive

109.00 $

The LNER Thompson Class L1 2-6-4T steam locomotives began with prototype No. 9000 in 1945 as part of Thompson’s ‘Standardisation Programme’, painted in an apple-green livery. The North British Locomotive Company constructed No. 67735, which entered service on 5th November 1948 in a BR Black livery.

The locomotive featured a Westinghouse air brake pump on the right-hand side of the smokebox, with a vacuum ejector for alternative train braking. In August 1950, a tank leak was repaired in Stratford, which was a common issue. 67735 was condemned on 16th September 1962 and was cut up at Doncaster Works on 15th November 1962.

Our replica of the standardised Thompson L1 Class ‘67735’ locomotive is complete with a sophisticated BR black livery. This model is DCC-ready and is compatible with our HM7000 8-Pin decoder. The accessory bag contains a hook coupling, a bar coupling, an articulated small coupler assembly, two vacpipes, a tall L1 rear vac pipe, two L1 front steps, two L1 cylinder draincocks, a tall L1 front vac pipe and an L1 pull rod.

Hornby TT3005M TT BR Class A3 4-6-2 60078 Night Hawk Digital Locomotive

137.00 $

While the A1 was a fantastic locomotive that served its purpose as intended, it became clear reasonably quickly that some modifications could be made that would greatly improve its performance. These modifications however were too significant to avoid reclassifying the locomotives and as such the A1 Felstead 2743 was the first to be withdrawn from service only a handful of years after it was introduced, emerging from its shed in August 1928 as the first A3 ‘Super Pacific.’

The newly designated A3 locomotives had an improved boiler, larger cylinders and a conversion from right to left hand drive. 27 of the class were built as A3 locomotives from the get go, with all of the in service A1 examples being converted before 1950, the last such example to undergo this transformation was the then BR numbered 60068 Sir Visto.

Night Hawk first entered LNER service on the fairly pleasing 24th October 1924 as locomotive number 2577 as an A1 locomotive. Rebuilt in January 1944 to an A3, the locomotive would go in to be numbered 78, and then 60078 under BR. Night Hawk would go on to be withdrawn on the 22nd October 1962, almost making it a nice round 38 years in service, before being scrapped at Doncaster in 1963.

European variants will be fitted with one traction tyre per bogie ex-works.

History

The Class 66 is one of the most ubiquitous diesel classes in the UK. 480 examples were built for the UK market with additional examples being imported from other countries pools to bolster the amount in service in the UK. The Class 66 is a progression of the privately commissioned Class 59 that Foster Yeoman had constructed to replace their aging and failing BREL locomotives. The Class 66 shares the same body as the 59 but has uprated internals.

In May 1996 EWS placed an order for 250 units to be built in London, Ontario. These would set EWS back £375 million, with the first units arriving relatively quickly in early 1998. The locomotives would be in service from the point they touched down at Newport Docks, with the locomotives shipped already filled with water and fuel. The last such example arrived in the UK in spring 2016.

Delivered into Newport Docks on board the MV Stellanova in April 2004, 66850 first went into service with Freightliner, before being transferred to operations with Colas in June 2011. In August 2013, 66850 was named 'David Maidment OBE' at the National Track Plant Exhibition at Long Marston, in a naming ceremony honouring the founder of the 'Railway Children' charity.

Railway Children was founded in 1996, following Maidment's encounter with a young girl begging on a railway station in India and he has since dedicated his life to raising awareness of the plight of children living alone and at risk on the streets and railway platforms.

Hornby R30362 BR Early Britannia Class 4-6-2 70001 Lord Hurcomb 1948 - 1956 Locomotive

208.00 $

No. 70001 ‘Lord Hurcomb’ was constructed at Crewe Works in February 1951 and bore the name of Cyril Hurcomb who oversaw the Ministry of War Transport. It was constructed to Order No. E479/220 and completed on 14th February that year.

From Stratford shed, 70001 hauled passenger express trains on the Great Eastern Railway such as ‘The Norfolkman’. For over twelve years, the locomotive was in service on the GE section. In 1954, the total mileage was 78,600.

The locomotive was withdrawn from service on 3rd September 1966 and stored at Carlisle Kingmoor Shed (12A) until the end of the year. In January 1967, 70001 was cut up at Motherwell Machinery and Scrap Co in Wishaw, Scotland.

A vibrant BR green livery is applied to this classic Britannia locomotive, No. 70001, and its coupled tender. The ‘Lord Hurcomb’ nameplate adorns the smoke deflectors, and the model also includes handrails. This model is DCC-ready and is compatible with our HM7000 21-Pin decoder. The accessory bag contains a flanged wheel axle assembly and an instruction leaflet.
