Hornby R40389 OO BR Mk3 TRUB 40330 Era 7
In-order to allow running at 125 mph on Britain's Victorian era railways, new rolling stock was needed by British Railways. Significant improvements over the Mk2 included new secondary air suspension between the bogies and the coach body as well as aerodynamic skirting on the underframe.
Mk3 coaches are 75ft (23m) long enabling far greater capacity than older coaches. Mk3 coaches also incorporate disk breaks and wheel slip protection enabling faster deceleration. The first Mk3 coaches to be delivered were used as part of the HST prototype along with the two Class 41 diesel power cars in 1972.
Mk3 coaches entered service in 1975 along with the Class 43 forming the iconic InterCity 125 trainset. After the HST Mk3 coach variant was introduced, further Mk3 coaches were introduced to the West Coast Mainline for use as part of locomotive hauled trains. Whilst Mk3 stock is standard for HST units, the standard locomotive hauled stock is Mk3a.
Mk3a stock differs from Mk3 stock due to the inclusion of buffers as well as a different electrical system that uses motor generator units in each coach to power air conditioning and other ancillaries Mk3a stock was built until 1984, before 3B stock with improved seating and lighting was built from 1985 to 1988.
The Mk3 coach is perhaps most iconic in its original production livery of the BR Grey and Blue. It is in this livery that the coach, as well as the matching Class 43 units would be introduced, before high speed rail services in the UK would be rebranded into the Intercity Executive livery.
Following the privatisation of the Railway network, Mk3 coaches would find themselves in many colourful liveries, some harking back to the original blue and grey livery of times gone by.
These Mk3 coaches include the provision for lighting provided by the R7305 Maglight lighting unit, as well as fully detailed interiors and metal wheels throughout. For the first time, these coaches also include our new Buckeye style magnetic couplings.

Hornby R40328 OO BR InterCity 6 Wheel Generator Coach
A British Rail 6 Wheel Coach converted and used as a power source, a Generator Coach is an innovative and curious device serving in a capacity far different from the typical expectation of a coach simply to carry. While British Rail's standardised coaches with their simple and direct marks have dominated the InterCity lines for decades, many different services are provided including the typical purposes of coaches and railway transport.
In lines where a pantograph was not freely available to power electric trains, a power outage appears unexpectedly or even a hotel or other building required electricity; the Generator Coach was an emergency tool at hand.

Steam Era Models R30T HO Short Steel U Van Kit with trapdoor
Most rolling stock constructed by or for the Victorian Railways during the 19th century involved significant amounts of wood. Whilst the use of wood allowed savings in initial cost, this was offset by higher maintenance costs in the longer term. Accordingly U 278, the first example of a 10'6” wheelbase louvre van with steel body and underframe, was constructed at Newport Workshops in 1897. Despite the higher build cost of this form of construction, as compared to the earlier series of vans with wooden bodies, it was considered that the projected longer life and reduced maintenance costs justified the construction of further vans to this design. Consequently, a batch of 180 vans, numbered U 281 to U 460, was constructed to the same design between 1898 and 1900. These vans had the handbrake on the opposite side of the van to the brake cylinder and the brake weigh shaft mounted in a plummer block directly below the bottom flange of the side sill. A second batch of 100 vans, numbered U 461 to U 560, was constructed at Newport Workshops in 1906. This second batch of vans had the handbrake installed on the same side of the van as the brake cylinder and the brake weigh shaft was mounted in shallow vee brackets 8 ¼” below the bottom of the side sills. Some vans were constructed with a trap door in the top Louvre at one end and further vans, but not all, were retrofitted with this door.
This kit is representative of a van as running between about 1955, when buffers were removed, and 1978 when the last examples were withdrawn. A number were reclassified as HD, operating in departmental service as tool vans

QMX 63' CONTAINER WAGON
These containers wagons were a continuation of the basic design of the earlier VR FQX 63’ wagon, the exception being, they were built with a skeletal deck.

They were suitable for bogie exchange and later all went into the NRC pool in 1995, the majority were fitted with 2CM high speed bogies and became RQFY coded wagons.
