Hornby TT4001A TT BR Mk1 Composite Corridor E15468

27.00 $

Upon nationalisation in 1947 the newly formed British Railways saw the need to standardise their passenger stock, having inherited a patchwork of coaches of all different specifications from each of the big four who were in turn sometimes running a wide variety of stock from their constituent companies. This new coach would have to be perfect for every possible use that the new BR may need it for, which could be tricky when the coach would need to be used on high speed summer boat trains in the south and cold winter services in the north of Scotland.

These coaches would be constructed from 1951 to 1963 with only one significant change made during this time, a swapping of bogies in the last gasps of the Mark 1s build cycle. The Mark 1 coach as it would be designated was designed to be a ‘go anywhere, do anything’ coach utilising the best features from each of the big four coaches the company had inherited. The Mark One coaches were stronger than the designs they replaced, with their introduction being commended in rail safety reports. These coaches would be in stock in one form or another in the UK until 2010, when the Mark One based Class 421 was withdrawn from service on the Lymington Branch Line.

Hornby R40248 OO LNER Mk3 Trailer First 41099 Era 10

32.00 $

In-order to allow running at 125 mph on Britain's railways, new rolling stock was needed by British Railways. Significant improvements over the Mk2 included new secondary air suspension between the bogies and the coach body as well as aerodynamic skirting on the underframe. Mk3 coaches are 75ft (23m) long enabling far greater capacity than older coaches. Mk3 coaches also incorporate disk brakes and wheel slip protection enabling faster deceleration.

The first Mk3 coaches to be delivered were used as part of the HST prototype along with the two Class 41 diesel power cars in 1972. Mk3 coaches entered service in 1975 along with the Class 43 forming the iconic InterCity 125 trainset.

Following a period of privatised operations carried out by Virgin Trains East Coast, the InterCity East Coast franchise was re-nationalised. The new operator, named LNER in reference to operator of train services in the area between 1923 and 1948, is owned by the Department for Transport and currently awarded the franchise until at least 2025. LNER inherited a large fleet of IC 125 and IC 225 sets, but quickly began replacing the ageing stock with more modern Hitachi built high-speed multiple units. The last IC 125 train operated by LNER ran as part of a farewell tour at the end of 2019. Our 41099 model is a representation of a typical LNER Open First Coach.

Hornby R4939A Cross Country Trains Mk3 Sliding Door TSD - Era 11

25.00 $

The British Rail Mark 3 is a type of passenger carriage developed in response to growing competition from airlines and the car in the 1960s. A variant of the Mark 3 became the rolling stock for the High Speed Train (HST).

Originally conceived as locomotive-hauled coaching stock, the first coaches built were for the prototype HST in 1972. Production coaches entered service between 1975 and 1988, and multiple-unit designs based on the Mark 3 bodyshell continued to be built until the early 1990s. Most of the surviving fleet of the Mark 3 and its derivatives are still in revenue service on the British railway network in 2019.

Hornby R60019 OO BR (Ex-LMS) 20 T Brake Van B950040

26.00 $

Until 1968, fully fitted freight trains were required by law to be carry a break van at the end. The brake van provided brake functionality to help slow the train as well as acting as a space in which the trains guard could carry out additional duties such as paperwork. As a result most brake vans featured a stove and desk on top of the brake apparatus. The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) built 2653 20 ton break vans between 1933 and 1947. These featured a wooden structure that spanned most of the frame, with open covered areas at either end to provide the guard with an excellent view of the train.

Peco NR604 N Wagon Load Kit Granite

4.00 $

PECO FREIGHT AND LINESIDE N - WAGON LOAD KIT - GRANITE

All kits comprise a bag of load material, such as coal or sand, plus sections of board that are cut to size to fit the desired wagon. The modeller, using a PVA adhesive, secures the materials on the cut boards and places the load inside the wagon for instant effect. The additional benefit, apart from the realism, is that some valuable weight is added to what might otherwise be a very light vehicle. Especially useful in an N scale wagon!

The N scale kits contain enough material for up to 6 wagons. Full instructions are provided in the packs.

Hornby R60249 BR Trout Ballast Hopper DB992039 1948 - 1956

17.00 $

Most BR departmental (non-revenue earning wagons) were provided with aquatic codes and these were known as the Fishkind. Aquatic names enabled the operating staff to allocate resources to jobs. The ballast hopper wagon designated ‘Trout’ by BR had its origins in the 1920s.

Two batches of BR ‘Trout’ wagons were constructed by Metropolitan-Cammell Ltd. to Diagram 1/580. DB992035-56 were constructed at Lot 2118 between May and June 1949. These BR ‘Trout’ wagons featured a side and centre discharge for ballast and were unfitted.

This ‘Trout’ Ballast Hopper wagon model features box sections in the vertical ribs. The hook couplings enable easier coupling of other rolling stock and locomotives on your layout. Stanchions support the wagon. A handbrake wheel is also featured. This model comes in a BR livery.
