SDS Models PL014 HO VR BPL Coach VR 3BPL Smooth Side

52.00 $

The original Austrains PL series of carriages have been upgraded. The Austrains NEO series are based around the same 59'9" design as the original models.

We've retooled the sides to reflect another style of doorway synonymous to this type of carriage, the sliding door. At the same time we took the opportunity to remove the faux raised screw heads of the original model along the raised beading and letter board area of the car body.

We have also improved the dimensionally accuracy of the roof mounted torpedo ventilators, made some small changes to the appearance of the bogies and improved the interior seat representation.

Lastly, we have introduced an additional width underframe, with centered handbrake wheel position. This provides us with a opportunity to model specific car numbers that match the prototype and offer all new car numbers. Three distinct eras of operation are offered, all with specific annotations on the car sides.

The APL and BCPL cars use the original 8'0" wide style underframe and the BPL cars ride on a new 7'6" style of underframe with centered handbrake wheel.

Hornby R40244 OO East Coast Mk3 Trailer First Disabled 41098

32.00 $

In-order to allow running at 125 mph on Britain's railways, new rolling stock was needed by British Railways. Significant improvements over the Mk2 included new secondary air suspension between the bogies and the coach body as well as aerodynamic skirting on the underframe. Mk3 coaches are 75ft (23m) long enabling far greater capacity than older coaches. Mk3 coaches also incorporate disk brakes and wheel slip protection enabling faster deceleration.

The first Mk3 coaches to be delivered were used as part of the HST prototype along with the two Class 41 diesel power cars in 1972. Mk3 coaches entered service in 1975 along with the Class 43 forming the iconic InterCity 125 trainset.

Following a period of unprofitable operations, the InterCity East Coast franchise passed from NXEC to East Coast, an operator owned by the Department for Transport. From the beginning of East Coast's operations, it was made clear that it was the DfT's intention was that the franchise be retendered in future years. To this end East Coast soon adopted a deliberately plain livery that would be easy for a new operator to re-brand. The franchise eventually passed to Virgin Trains East Coast in March 2015.

Hornby R4857A OO Virgin Mk3 First Open 11074 Era 9

37.00 $

When Virgin Rail Group took over the Inter City West Coast franchise on March 9, 1997, the Train Operating Company (TOC) inherited a fleet of locomotive hauled British Rail Mark II and Mark III coaching stock, as well as British Rail Mark III Driving Van Trailers (DVT) and High Speed Train (HST) Mark III coach sets. These vehicles were in use on the West Coast Main Line (WCML) electric services, as well as the HST hauled London Euston to Holyhead routes.
Virgin’s franchise agreement included the commitment to replace the existing main line trains with tilting stock and the introduction of the Class 390 Pendolinos in January 2003 led to the withdrawal of locomotive hauled trains on the WCML by June 2005. On the Holyhead services, the intention was to replace the HST Mark III sets with Class 221 Super Voyagers from September 2004, but in both circumstances, the Mark III stock continued in service as cover across the various routes.

On the Holyhead services, the Super Voyagers were found to be too short and so Mark III sets were pressed into use as a stop-gap measure, hauled by Class 47 and Class 90 locomotives until September 2005. On the WCML, modifications to the Pendolinos in 2006 led to a Mark III set being introduced on Birmingham New Street services, hauled by a Class 87, while following the Greyrigg accident on February 23, 2007, another Mark III set was pushed into service on the WCML, being hauled by a Class 90 and tailed with a DVT.

The swansong for Mark III coaches under Virgin came with the formation of a refurbished Mark III set that came to be known as the Pretendolino set. Re-upholstered seating, power points, Wi-Fi and a full repaint took place at Wabtec’s Doncaster facility and the set entered service on Friday London Euston to Crewe services until December 2012, then on Thursday and Friday London Euston to Birmingham New Street services between December 2013 to October 2014.

Peco NR605 N Wagon Load Kit Sand

4.00 $

PECO FREIGHT AND LINESIDE N - WAGON LOAD KIT - SAND

All kits comprise a bag of load material, such as coal or sand, plus sections of board that are cut to size to fit the desired wagon. The modeller, using a PVA adhesive, secures the materials on the cut boards and places the load inside the wagon for instant effect. The additional benefit, apart from the realism, is that some valuable weight is added to what might otherwise be a very light vehicle. Especially useful in an N scale wagon!

The N scale kits contain enough material for up to 6 wagons. Full instructions are provided in the packs.

Hornby R60257 BR LOCO 21T Steel Mineral Wagon DM750586 1948 - 1956

14.00 $

The 21-ton mineral wagon served an essential purpose in the early stages of British Railways' control over the new national railway network. These wagons were essentially coal wagons, the logical evolution of the old 3 – 7 plank wagon designs of the grouping era.

These wagons were used for industrial-scale coal transportation, with long trains of these being one of the only ways of transporting coal from the coalfields in the quantities required to keep the British steam train fleet running.

These wagons were of all steel construction with common yet uprated leaf springs to accommodate the load weight these would commonly haul. These wagons were fitted with side doors, for easy, speedy unloading of the cargo.

This wagon is liveried in a BR black livery with an eye-catching yellow legend of ‘LOCO’ on the side. The hook couplings enable easier coupling of other rolling stock and locomotives on your layout. It features die-cast spoked wheels.
