160 of these 49’3” long vans were built by three different companies between 1915-16 through to 1921-22, all rode on 7’0” wheelbase bogies. Kilborn and Willick constructed 55 vans, Meadowbank Mfg Co constructed 55 vans and Clyde Eng 50 vans. All were built with end windows in the Guards section, these were later removed from about the 1940s.

They were coded LHG from delivery, some were coded OHG with screw couplings for passenger train working but reverted to LHG with auto couplers in the early 1960s.

100 vans were recycled with their underframes being shortened for the OHG programme, 18 were reused as W&W vehicles.

At the start of the 1930s the LMS abandoned the ‘Small Engine Policy that it had inherited from one of its largest predecessors, the Midland Railway. The abandoning of this policy led to some of the most famous Stanier and LMS designs such as the Jubilee, Black 5 and Duchess classes. To accompany this shift in ethos, new coaches were constructed for the LMS, with the 57’ coaches being built between 1931 and 1932.

These new coaches were steel clad, the first such for the LMS and had seating for 56, 300 such examples were built. In LMS service these coaches were painted in their striking maroon livery with LMS insignia adorning the side. The coaches, being relatively new at the time of nationalisation lasted well into the swansong days of BR, appearing in both its carmine and cream livery and later BR Maroon when BR decided to shift aesthetics back to regional recognition.

Built at Metro-Cammell's Washwood Heath factory, 314 Mk4 coaches were produced between 1989 and 1992. They were built specifically for use on the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, along with hopes that a second order for the West Coast Main Line would be placed at a later date, although this second order never transpired. Mk4 coaches featured many improvements over the Mk3s such as push-button operated plug-type doors, fully sealed gangways and a designed top speed of 140mph. Much of the Mk4 design was based upon the Advanced Passenger Train. In particular, Mk4 coaches feature sides profiled to allow a tilt of up to 6° with newly fitted tilting bogies.

Mk4s entered service in 1989 and helped drive a significant increase in passenger traffic. With privatisation in 1996, all Mk4 coaches were sold to Evershot Rail Group who have since leased them out to the holder of the InterCity East Coast Franchise. The franchise was initially awarded to Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) and has since been operated by National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) owned by the Department for Transport.

Between October 2003 and November 2005 Bombardier Transportation, under contract from GNER, commenced refurbishment of the Mk4 stock, fitting new seating arrangements and introduced onboard Wi-Fi, a first for British rail services. This refurbishment programme was called 'Project Mallard' named after the Mallard steam locomotive, built in the 1930s by the London & North Eastern Railway and holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives.

Although Mk4 coaches have spent most of their lives on the ECML, there are plans to cascade them down to other lines due to the introduction of the Class 800 and Class 801 IEPs.

The Beatles require almost no introduction, it is hard to imagine a corner of the globe where their punchy sounds have not been heard in the almost 60 years they have achieved mainstream success.This wagon celebrates the first two albums released by the Beatles 'Please Please Me' and 'With the Beatles'. 

'Please Please Me' kickstarted the Beatles success, with the album featuring songs such as 'Love Me Do' and 'Twist and Shout'. The roaring success of the album was followed by 'With the Beatles' an album featuring such songs as 'Little Child' and 'Please Mr. Postman' a cover of the song by the same name from the ground breaking group the Marvelettes.

The Koki 107 series is a marine container-compatible vehicle manufactured since 2006.

The hand brake handle that was installed on the side of the car body in the conventional Koki 100 series has been changed to a deck handrail at the end of the car body in this model. The cars added from 2015 no longer have the "JRF" and "No Pushing" markings that were on the side of the conventional cars. Seino Transportation's U54A container is a 31-foot class container.

The vent van was a small multipurpose goods van which would transport all manner of items whilst keeping them protected from the wind and rain. The wagon design features a single vent on each end of the structure allowing air to flow thereby maintaining a cooler air temperature, beneficial for the transportation of perishable food items. Closed vans would often be loaded with all manner of miscellany such as flour, meat, parcels or perhaps scale models.

Features

The Southern Railway Ganward Bogie Luggage Vans were initially introduced in SR Olive Green livery, a very small number gained malachite. Under British Railways they were in crimson, with as few as six painted BR Green.

All were withdrawn during 1959 and 1960 with twelve lasting to 1961 for pigeon traffic. A few entered departmental use and two have been preserved. Number S2464S was painted in Pullman car livery in July 1962 and stored in readiness to be used as Sir Winston Churchill's funeral hearse on 30th January 1965. In total 120 of these bogie luggage vans were built between 1930 and 1931 utilising ex LSWR underframes and bogies surplus from the bogie block set coach bodies having been converted to electric stock. This model continues our affection for this particular van by presenting an alternate livery, another choice that may appeal to the collector drawn to a new appearence of this enduringly popular invention.
