The E217 series is a suburban train based on the 209 series that was introduced in 1994 to replace the 113 series on the Yokosuka and Sobu Rapid Lines.

The basic 11-car formation has two double-decker green cars.

In the 8th series, which was added in 1999, the side windows of the long-seat cars were made the same as those of the 209 series 500 series, and the production of the E216 series 1000 series was resumed and incorporated into the formation of 4-car formations.

In 2007, the color of the stripes on the car body was changed to match the equipment renewal work on the underfloor equipment, etc.

The skirt of the leading car was also replaced with a reinforced type.

The Class 755 bi-mode multiple unit trains are built by Stadler Rail for Greater Anglia as one of five EMU’s for the UK, part of the highly configurable FLIRT modular train family and designed for greater capacity, the typical 25 kV 50 Hz AC overhead power supply, and comfort over long-distance journeys. Sanriku Railway is a third-sector railway company that opened in 1984.

The section of the JR Yamada Line from Kamaishi to Miyako, which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, was transferred to Sanriku Railway in 2019, and is now operated together with the existing "Kita-Rias Line" and "Minami-Rias Line" as the new "Rias Line".

The 36-700 series began operating in April 2013, and as of 2023, there are 14 cars in service, including those added when the "Rias Line" opened.

The 115 series was a commuter train based on the 113 series for steeply sloping lines, and later models for cold climates were remodeled with larger seat pitch, and classified as the 1000 series.

The 115 series used on the Tohoku and Takasaki lines were painted in Shonan colors and operated in formations of up to 15 cars.

The E231 series is a commuter and suburban train developed by JR East and is in operation on various DC sections in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The E231 series, which belongs to the Kozu Rolling Stock Center, began commercial operation in 2004 with the aim of replacing the 113 series.

The basic 10-car formation has two double-decker green cars attached.
