The Kiha 58 series is a diesel express car of the Japanese National Railways that was introduced in 1961. The Kiha 58 type is a vehicle equipped with two engines, and the group that was designed for long formations from the beginning was classified as the 400 series. When it was introduced, it was not air-conditioned, but from around 1968 it was converted to be air-conditioned.

The E231-1000 series Kozu cars were introduced in 2004 for the Tokaido Line.

The cars are characterized by their promotion of universal design, with the installation of lamps for opening and closing the boarding and alighting doors, and the addition of through doors as a fire prevention measure from the third train onwards.

The E231 series also introduced the first two-story green car, and in parallel with this, green cars were introduced to existing Koyama cars (for the Utsunomiya Line and Takasaki Line). The Kozu cars are newly manufactured with eight cars, and early-model Saha cars that were reassembled from the Koyama cars are installed in cars 6 and 7, making them an irregular formation, which is a unique feature of the Kozu cars. Work to update the main equipment will begin in 2021, and modifications to accommodate platform doors are also being made.

The vehicle is currently in service on regular trains on the Ueno-Tokyo Line (Tokaido Line between Numazu and Tokyo, Utsunomiya Line between Tokyo and Utsunomiya, Takasaki Line between Omiya and Takasaki, Ryomo Line between Takasaki and Maebashi) and the Shonan-Shinjuku Line (between Zushi/Odawara and Maebashi/Utsunomiya).

The E233-2000 series, a local train on the Joban Line that was introduced in 2009, features a design and exterior that is compatible with direct subway service. In 2016, the train began operating on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line as well as the Odakyu Electric Railway, expanding the operating area. Due to this direct operation, the position and shape of the skirts were slightly changed, giving the train a unique impression.

In 2022, the headlights of some formations were replaced with LED lights, and the replacement is still ongoing. As of 2023, 19 10-car trains are in service as the main vehicles for local trains on the Joban Line.

The 485 series was introduced in 1968 as a limited express train compatible with three power sources: DC and 50/60Hz AC, and was used on electrified sections nationwide.

The "Hakutaka" is a limited express train that began operation with the opening of the Hokuetsu Express Hokuhoku Line in 1997.

Some of the cars painted in Kaminumattari color have had their interiors upgraded and the passenger windows enlarged both above and below.

The Kiha 183 series is a diesel express train that first appeared in 1979.

The 6000 series was a vehicle that was made by converting the 500 and 550 series cars into tatami rooms, and in 1999, two leading cars and one middle car were introduced. These cars were used in three-car independent formations and as single-car couplings on regular trains.

The 227 series is a suburban train that began operating in 2015 and is used as a local or rapid train mainly in the Hiroshima area.
